Chairman's Message

Mark Colley, Chairman, Governing Council, Rose Park Primary School

A belated welcome to 2011 and Term 1.  Time is flying by, so a few notes and updates

Governing Council

There are a number of places [a minimum of 5] up for election and or re-election in Term 2 at the AGM - week 9.  Voting will again be by postal ballot should we receive more nominations than we have places.  I would encourage anyone interested in nominating to come along to the next meeting - week 9 of this Term.  It is a great opportunity to act as an advocate for the best interests of all of our children, and the school community.  The last 30 months of this current GC have been very successful for the school, coinciding with the BER and the resolution of long standing space management issues for the school.

There are a number of major projects coming along including:

1. The Education & Care Brief - which will hopefully deliver significant funding to the school to enable some upgrading to be completed on key areas of the school such as the Potts Building, the Church Building, the play space and the development of outdoor learning spaces which will again transform the school's facilities, much as the new I-Centre has.  GC will be actively involved.

2. The IB program continues to take traction at the school and monitoring its performance and pathways is another area GC will be actively engaged in

Foundation

This will begin working with the school during Term 1.  Whilst at arm’s length from the GC and school management, it promises in the long term to become a solid source of funds to enable the school to deliver over and above its core services.  As with the GC I would encourage any parent seeking to engage and participate in the school community to consider a term on the Foundation group.

Unit Relocation

This process continues albeit without the rhythm we had hoped for.  We remain in discussions with DECS and the Minister and hope to have something to publish for the school community by the week commencing 7 March.  At this time it remains disappointing to note despite ongoing communications, DECS has again failed to advise us, as a stakeholder, what has been done, by whom, by when and what the next steps are.  However we have written to the Minister seeking formal advice from which we can inform the school community.  This letter will be available on the school website early this week.
