As part of the Federal Government's 'Building the Education Revolution' program, Rose Park Primary School is receiving a $3m grant. It is due for completion in August 2010.
The grant will be used to provide:
- four large new classrooms upstairs (together with a common area, kitchen, stairs and lift)
- a major new resource centre and library downstairs
- the refurbishment of the old library in the original main building into new classrooms and staff toilets
Design
This design is unique to Rose Park Primary School. The new building will be developed within the 'U' formed by the original main building which was previously occupied by the staff toilets (circa 1970's) and a dilapidated pergola covered play area.
The original main building and the new building will be separated by a 'glass' corridor on three sides so that the heritage values of the original main building will be preserved. The new building will extend some 16 metres into the playground.
The height of the new building will be below that of the original building and so will not be visible from Alexandra Avenue. By constructing a two storey building and utiliising the space in the 'U', the school is retaining as much of the useful playground space as possible.

- The wooden building on Grant Avenue will remain but will be re-configured to become a single large classroom available for a variety of purposes.
- One of the two existing basketball courts running North-South will be lost to the new building but the remaining space will be reconfigured to become a basketball court running East-West.
- The project will also enable the whole school to be connected wirelessly to the school local area network.
