Welcome to Rose Park Primary School.
As an inner metropolitan Adelaide school with a long history of quality education the school is proud of its achievements. While our heritage listed buildings and 100 year old plane trees present a beautiful and traditional facade to our school, students and their families are well pleased with the progressive and engaging curriculum program offered.
The ethos of our school is to focus on learning and to admire high levels of achievement. Classroom programs focus on an inquiry based approach with a strong blend of explicit teaching practices. We are currently a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program with authorisation to occur in October 2011. We participate each year in national testing for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and we are pleased that our students score an average which is amongst the highest ranked schools in the State.
Our school has on average about 400 students each year placed into 16 or so classes. Most classes use composite year levels in order to best meet the range of abilities for each cohort. We offer Music as a specialist subject and the school has a strong reputation for its achievements with choirs, ensembles and individually talented musicians. Japanese is our language programme and all students receive a between 50 and 90 minutes instruction time per week. The school has interactive whiteboards in every classroom and we use technology to support our learning whenever practical. We offer both Macintosh and PC computers for different functions to support student learning.
The school also offers a comprehensive sporting program. Coordinated by a sport committee comprising parents of the school and operated by volunteer parents as coaches and managers, the school offers traditional sports of Australian Rules football, soccer, cricket, netball and basketball. We also offer less traditional opportunities and recent events include table tennis, orienteering, snow skiing, cross country, swimming and athletics. The participation rate across the school is high with many students taking on three or more mainstream sports per year plus the added opportunities as they are offered.A pedal prix team is also offered for the older students through the middle 2 terms.
We are actively supported by the school community which is a ready and willing participant in the life and decision making of the school. Opportunities exist to be a part of Governing Council and it's Sub-committees and the Parents and Friends and Old Scholars Associations. Daily helpers in the class are also in high demand and help to support the extensive work we do in literacy and numeracy.
Once again, I welcome you to the school and I look forward to meeting with you.
