Winter Footy: Terms 2/3

Registrations for playing Footy are now due. All teams will be finalised by approximately week eight of term one.

Last year we successfully entered three teams in the Sturt schools football zone. One complete Rose Park Year 2/3 team, one combined Year 4/5 team with Glen Osmond PS and one combined Year 6/7 team with Linden Park PS and Glen Osmond PS.

Year 2/3 and 4/5 teams play up to 15 or 18 per side and year 6/7 team up to 18 per team.  

AFL Footy is played on Saturday morning and is suitable for both boys and girls and training is generally on Wednesday nights, however coaches may change night depending on other commitments.

Gerseys will be provided, returnable at year end, in striped colours of gold and royal blue.  Players will need to provide and wear accompanying gold and blue socks and blue shorts.

Round 14 Saturday 28th August … Rose Park 10.4 = 64 points defeated Glen Osmond 4.0 = 24 points

A wonderful team effort and a perfect way to finish the season with a strong performance against Glen Osmond.

Goals: Gerard O’Connor (2)  Liam Nichol (1), Lewis Matsis (1), William Warrick (1), Kallan Woodcock (1), Matthew Beahan (1),  Charlie McGown (1), Jack Holland (1), Adam Miller (1) and Alexander Francis (1).

Best:  William Warwick, Lewis Matsis, Gerard O’Connor, Kallen Woodcock, Charlie McGown, Jack Holland and Alexander Francis.

Team Players: Thomas Colley, Bailey Selth – Horgan and Adam Miller.

Season in review …

Won all games except one earlier in the season.

Team kicked a massive 155 goals over the 14 week season, with 19 players all kicking one or more goals.

Every player had the opportunity to play every position on several occasions.

7 different players have had the opportunity to fill in for the 4/5’s.

Thank you to all parents who have helped out this season with goal umpiring, scoring, time keeping, oranges, training assistance, photos and coaching. Without your assistance the season would not have run as smoothly as it did.

Round 13 Saturday 21st August … Rose Park 11.9 = 75 points defeated Mitcham 2.1 = 13 points

Another impressive team performance with lots of attacking run from defense and excellent running handball resulted in a very strong performance against a Mitcham side that was undefeated.

Goals: Liam Nichol (4), Charlie Durack (2), Lewis Matsis (1), William Warrick (1), Joshua Sims (1), Kaleb Cock (1) and Kallan Woodcock (1)  

Best:  Liam Nichol, William Warrick, Gerard O’Connor, Lewis Matsis, Kaleb Cock, Jack Holland and Charlie Durack 

Team Players: Charlie Abbott, Matthew Beahan and Alexander Francis    

Round 12 ... Saturday 14th August … Rose Pk 8.8 = 56 points defeated Pulteney Grammar 1.5 = 11 points.

In appalling conditions Rose Park produced the very best performance for the year against an undefeated Pulteney, reversing the one goal loss in the carnival earlier in the season. There were flashes of brilliance from the boys, in particular by Liam Nichol (triple spin to evade three players) and wonderful handball work from the entire team particularly, Thomas Foo, Charlie Durack, William Warrick, Adam Miller, Joshua Sims, Lewis Matsis, Jack Holland and Gerard O’Connor. Others that showed there versatility all over the ground were Angus Clark, Alexander Francis, Kaleb Cock, Matthew Beahan, Charlie McGowan, Bailey Selth-Horgan and William Staples.

Goals: Charlie McGown (2), Kaleb Cock (2), Liam Nichol (1), Lewis Matsis (1), Jack Holland (1) and Gerard O’Connor (1).

Best:  William Warrick, Jack Holland, William Staples, Charlie Durack, Lewis Matsis, Liam Nichol and Charlie McGown.

Round 11 ... Saturday 7th August … Rose Pk 11.8 = 74 points defeated Magill 2.1 = 14 points

Thanks to Fraser Warrick for coaching on the weekend, another strong performance by the Rose Park Eagles.

Round 10 ... Saturday 31st July … Rose Pk 14.5 = 89 points defeated St Josephs / Kingwoods 5.1 = 31 points

What a wonderful team performance by the ever improving Rose Park Year 2/3 Eagles. All played well and everyone should be congratulated on their outstanding efforts and commitment for the team against a commitment and very competitive opposition.

It was very pleasing to see more handball, lots of playing on, long kicking and support for each other.

A special mention to Charlie McGown who was the rock of defense in the first quarter and to all players who sang the team song with enthusiasm and passion after the game.

Round 9 ... Saturday 24th July … Rose Pk 12.9 = 81 points defeated St Johns Grammar 6.4 = 40 points

Another impressive team performance with lots of attacking run from defense and excellent running handball resulted in a very strong performance.

A special mention to all eight players who played for the opposition and in particular Will Staples who kicked three goals for the opposition in the third quarter.

Round 8 Saturday 26th June … Rose Pk 6.9 = 45 points defeated St Raphaels 1.7 = 13 points

A stirring win will some impressive performances from the younger and smaller players, resulted in a strong win.

A special mention to Angus Clarke for several hard ball gets, Thomas Foo for two excellent goals and Ned Griffith- Morgan for playing for the opposition in the first quarter.

Round 7 ... Saturday 19th June … Rose Pk 9.5 = 59 points defeated Unley/Goodwood 1.1 = 7 points.

A fantastic team effort by all players resulted in a strong win by 52 points. The key to this weeks good performance was the running to space that providing options for the whole team. 

Running to space to providing options, kicking correctly to these options and running handball will be the major focus at training and game day over the next few months.

Special mention to Kaleb Cock who provided options for the team by running into space all game and Joshua Sims who played for the opposition in the first quarter.

Round 6 ... Saturday 5th June … Rose Pk 8.8 = 56 points defeated Magill 3.3 = 21 points:

Rose Park played wonderful team football with lots of run and commitment to secure a strong win by 35 points.

Special mention to Ned Griffith who kicked his first goal for the season and to Bailey Selth – Horgan who almost kicked his first goal for the season.

Round 5 ... Friday Night 28th May … Rose Pk 5.5 = 35 points lost to Rostrevor 10.7 = 67 points

Under light and in the rain Friday night, Rose Park were ahead at half time and only 8 points down at three quarter time, however the opposition kick 5 goals in the last to run out the game better. Rose Park did their very best against a very good team and considering the conditions it was a very skillful game.

Round 4 ... 22nd May ... Rose Pk 9.4 = 58 points defeated Mercedes 3.1 = 19 points.

Rose Park played wonderful team football with lots of handball to secure another strong win by 39 points. Everyone played well, followed team rules, executed team structures and have now set high standards for the rest of the season.

Special mention to Adam Millar and Gerard O’Connor who kicked their first goals for the season.

Round 3 … 15th May ... Rose Pk 14.7 = 91 points defeated Glen Osmond 2.1 = 13 points.

Again a wonderful team performance with 6 different goal kickers and excellent team play.

Special mention to Adam who was was running into goal an unselfishly hand balled off to a team mate who kicked a goal and Kallen for kicking his first goal for the season.

Round 2 ... 8th May ... Lighting Carnival ... 5 wins and 1 loss. 

Game 1 Rose Pk 1.2 = 8 points defeated Mitcham 1.0 = 6 points

Game 2 Rose Pk 1.3 = 9 points lost to Pulteney 2.0 = 12 points

          Goals: Lewis Matsis (1)

Game 3 Rose Pk 5.3 = 33 points defeated Magill 1.0 = 6 points

Game 4: Rose Pk 4.2 = 26 points defeated Unley / Goodwood 0.0 = 0 points

It was a wonderful team performance with 9 individual goal kickers (this included 2 goals from Rose Park playing for the opposition).

Rose Pk followed all the team rules and team themes including the umpires new zoning instructions.

Special mention to Joshua Sims, Charlie McGown and William Staples for playing for the opposition as they were one short.

Rules:

For those that have played club footy before the rules are different. There is no bouncing, tackling, shepherding, barging, full smothering (off the boot), chopping, fending off, pushing, deliberate bumping, deliberate kicking off the ground and knocking the ball out of opponent’s hands … see link to full rules  School Footy Year 2&3 Rules  Therefore during training and game day the emphasis will be on attaching the footy first and keeping possession … “GET & GO” “KICK LONG” “TRACKING” and “RUNNING HANDBALL” will be our early learning to overcome these restrictions as well as winning and having fun.

Roaster Scorer / Timekeeper & Goal Umpire:

We need assistance with goal umpire & scorer / time keeper each week and I have draw up a roster if you are unable to assist please swap with another family and let me know.

Training Times & Location:

Every Wednesday afternoon between 4.30 – 5.30pm at Webb Oval, Conyngham Street, Glenside, (Glenunga High School).

Training will be held at the same time and location every Wednesday (excluding school holidays). I will always be at training from 4.15pm onwards for those that need to drop and run.
