Year 6/7 Footy Team

Winter Footy: Terms 2/3

Registrations for playing Footy are now due. All teams will be finalised by approximately week eight of term one.

Last year we successfully entered three teams in the Sturt schools football zone. One complete Rose Park Year 2/3 team, one combined Year 4/5 team with Glen Osmond PS and one combined Year 6/7 team with Linden Park PS and Glen Osmond PS.

Year 2/3 and 4/5 teams play up to 15 or 18 per side and year 6/7 team up to 18 per team.

AFL Footy is played on Saturday morning and is suitable for both boys and girls and training is generally on Wednesday nights, however coaches may change night depending on other commitments.

Gerseys will be provided, returnable at year end, in striped colours of gold and royal blue.  Players will need to provide and wear accompanying gold and blue socks and blue shorts.

If you are interested in coaching one of these teams and for additional information please contact either Brett Darcy or Richard Sims.

Round 14 Results 28th August 2010 ...

The valiant Eagles couldn’t manage a last game win against Magill, fighting hard all day to go down 6.5.41 to 11.7.63.  Adam Zeni  was best for the Eagles with Brad Faulkner playing well across the ground.  Callum Godfrey and Jake Lang signalled themselves as future champions with some strong work and deft kicks.

Round 13 Results 21st August  ...

A depleted 6/7 Eagles team battled hard against Mitcham but failed to come away with the points in the mud losing 1.0.6 to 4.7.31.  The highlights included a first time goal to Patrick O’Conner, a BOG performance from stand in Jameson Bower and some great spirit from the likes of Adam Zeni, Jackson Wood and Joe Awwad, who never stopped trying.

Round 11 Results 7th August ...

The 6/7 Eagles had a stutter this week, losing to a well drilled Highgate team by only two points – 6.3.39 to 5.7.37.

After leading by 4 goals early, the Eagles will rue missed chances but will learn from the experience.  BOG Adam Zeni played a great game, Rudi Tsouvallas seems to be playing himself into some form and Matthew

Thompson continues to improve.

Round 10 Results 31st July ...

The 6/7 Eagles faced a competitive Belair St Johns on a soggy Webb oval.  After a three quarter arm wrestle, Harry and Jake Premrl combined to inspire a 5 goal last quarter to seal a win 12.10.82 to 5.11.41. The two Jakes (Sloan and Premrl) kicked four goals apiece while Ben was great in defence, Rory and Adam ran all day and Matty Thompson contributed some special touches.

Round 9 Results 24th July ...

After a three week break, the 6/7 Eagles had a tough game down South in Aberfoyle Park.  At one stage trailing by 5 goals, the Eagles then kicked 9 of the last 11 to take the points 9.8.62 to 7.7.49.  Tom L was BOG with a terrific 4 quarter rucking performance but the Eagles had winners across the ground with special mention of Jacob with 4 goals, Hugh and Jake P as the in and under rovers and the solid and reliable Adam Z and Jackson Woods.  A great team effort.

Round 8 Results 27th June  ...

The 6/7 Eagles had a hard fought game against Mitcham, taking the points 7.3.45 to 5.3.33.  This reversed a seven goal loss from the last time the teams met.  While perhaps leaving a bit in the tank, there were flashes of brilliance from the boys, in particular by Drew Faulkner, “Mr Everywhere”, who was best on ground, while Jake Premrl showed his versatility at full forward and Callum Godfrey and Nathan Thompson continue to improve.  There is a break now until 24 July at which time the boys will take on Magill in the top of the table clash.

Round 7 Results 20th June ...

The early morning downpours cleared to allow the 6/7 Eagles to trounce a favoured Goodwood/Unley side 19.7.121 to 2.0.12.  The biggest win of the season, the boys made the sodden Webb oval look like Astroturf with 11 different goal scorers.  BOG for the second week running was Brad Faulkner, with his brother Drew, Jacob Sloan and Louis Henbest all contributing.  Special thanks to Bruno Zeni who coached in the absence of the incumbent – who may find it difficult to regain his place!

Round 6 Results 5th June ...

Following a team vote the previous week, Harry Van Adrighem was elected captain and Adam Zeni Vice Captain for the second year running.  Well done to those boys who are true leaders on the field.  In a game where the score didn’t really matter, the Eagles then took the points over a fledgling CBC/St Raphaels side.  To even the teams a bit, Harry, Adam, Tom L and Jacob S all played for the opposition for part of the game and to their credit, went as hard as they could regardless of the jersey they were wearing.  Other notable performances came from Drew with 4 goals while his brother Brad was voted BOG with Nathan Thompson and Jake Lang getting special mention for stepping their games up a level.

Round 5 Results 29th May ...

In cold, wet and blustery conditions in the Hills the 6/7 Eagles beat a competitive Hawthorndene team 9.7.61 to 3.5.22.  The performance was impressive as the Eagles were down on numbers and then lost Brad for most of the game to a leg injury.  Best for the Eagles was “Mr Everywhere” Harry Van Adrighem with special mentions to Harrison Renshaw and Matthew Thompson who did the job asked of them by the coach.

Round 4 Results 22nd May ...

The 6/7 Eagles travelled to Urrbrae to tackle an in form Highgate and, despite losing captain Harry to a sickening clash of heads in the second quarter, managed to come away with the points – 5.5.35 to 3.3.21.  A spirited display made extra special by the boys who chose to step up in tribute to their injured captain.  BOG to Adam Zeni, special mentions to Jake Premrl and Rudi Tsouvallas, but there were no passengers in this great effort.

Round 3 Results 15th May ...

The 6/7 Eagles lost a nailbiting encounter against top of the table Magill by 5 points.  Rory Illman again starred, being Best on Ground for the second week running with special mentions to pocket dynamos Drew Faulkner and Louis Henbest who never stopped trying.  The boys are improving week by week and will again need to exhibit their skills against a strong Highgate team this Saturday.

Round 2 Results 8th May ...

Eagles 18.13 = 131 points defeated Mercedes College 4.1 = 25 points

After a setback in the first week against Mitcham, the 6/7 Eagles combined football team bounced back with a big win over Mercedes College 18.13. 131 to 4.1.25. Best on ground was Rory Illman and special mentions to Drew Faulkner and Jonathon Lewis. Captain Harry Van Adrighem led from in front with 6 goals. A solid preparation for a big game next week against Magill Gold.

Round 1 Results 1st May ...

Eagles 5.7 = 37 points lost to Mitcham 11.9 = 75 points

The 6/7 Eagles opened the season against a hardened and cohesive Mitcham team, going down 5.7.37 to Mitcham 11.9.75.  Competitive throughout, ultimately the Eagles gave the Mitcham players too much room to move and will have to tighten up to beat the better teams in the competition.  Harry Van Adrighem, caretaker captain starred in a BOG performance ably assisted by Rudi Tsouvallas and Joseph Awaad.  Encouraging performances also from the skilled Callan Godfrey and Rory Illman and the debuting Irishman Patrick O’Conner. Goals:  Van Adrighem 3; Lewis 1; Godfrey 1.  Next week the team will be boosted by the returning Jake Premrl and we look forward to the recovery of last year’s Vice Captain, Adam Zeni, from an arm fracture.

Overview:

The school football season commences Saturday 1st May, 2010 and as for last year, Rose Park, Glen Osmond and Linden Park Primary schools will be combining to form an "Eagles" team. The team will be managed out of Linden Park School which will shortly distribute written invitations to players.
However, in advance, the important details are as follows:

Coach:

Jim Leggatt will again coach and can be contacted on email: james.leggatt@optusnet.com.au

Team Manager:

We will need a team manager and are looking for a volunteer from the Rose Park parents which will assist with communications to Rose Park. The role of the team manager is essentially to coordinate the parents participation roster (timekeepers, scorers, goal umpire, oranges),
inform the coach as to who is/is not playing or attending training and to organise the end of year BBQ.  Please contact Jim if you are able to take on this role.

Training:

Training will be at Mariner Oval, Mariner Street Linden Park, from 5pm on Wednesdays, commencing Wednesday 21st April (the first Wednesday of Term 2).

Uniform:

Gerseys will be provided, returnable at year end, in the colours gold and royal blue.  Players will need to wear accompanying gold and blue socks and blue shorts. We are looking to source these via the Linden Park School uniform shop - if you need them please
email what you need and your son's size to Julianne Woods at julianne@paramountdx.com. In addition, all players will be required to wear mouthguards at training and on game day and will of course need boots.
